HOUSEHOLD WASTE

Accepted:
#3 - #7 plastics, A, C & D batteries, anti-freeze containers, broken glass, foam & "peanuts", food waste, light bulbs, oil containers - empty, pizza boxes, plastic pots, stuffed toys, waxed cardboard, waxed juice & milk container, window panes.

Not Accepted:
Recyclables

MIXED PAPER

Accepted:
books - remove hard cover, envelopes, junk mail, office paper, white & colored paper.

Not Accepted:
food containers, gift wrap, milk cartons, plastic bags, used pizza boxes, waxed paper.

MAGAZINES

Accepted:
catalogues, magazines.

Not Accepted:
food containers, gift wrap, milk cartons, plastic bags, used pizza boxes, waxed paper.

COMMINGLED;  GLASS, PLASTIC AND METAL FOOD CONTAINERS   **must be empty and rinsed, lids/caps removed

Accepted:
#1 - #2 plastic, aluminum foil, bleach bottles, detergent bottles, metal beverage cans, milk bottles, tin cans (food)

Not Accepted:
antifreeze containers, chemical containers, oil containers, plastic plant pots

*there is a separate container for beverage containers with Connecticut deposit

NEWSPAPER  **must be bundled and either tied or placed in paper bag

Accepted:
brown grocery bags, newspapers and newspaper inserts

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD   **must be flattened

Accepted:
double walled boxes, shipping boxes

Not Accepted:
waxed cardboard, pizza boxes

SCRAP METAL

Accepted:
aluminum, appliances, brake drums, cast iron, copper, extension cords, handles - if metal, most motorized lawn equipment, paint cans metal only - empty & dry, rims, sheet metal, steel, window frames (metal)

Not Accepted:
freon items, engines/motors containing gas and/or oil, propane tanks

WASTE MOTOR OIL
place in clean plastic or metal jug. DO NOT use empty bleach containers.

Accepted:
automatic transmission fluid, brake fluid, hydraulic fluid, oil, power steering fluid

Not Accepted:
gasoline, cleaning solvents, anti-freeze.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WATES (HHW)
twice a year, a regional one-day HHW collection is held for residents. watch for ads in newspapers and notices in town hall between April 1 and September 1.

Accepted:
auto fluids (other than waste motor oil – see above), waste fuels, oil based paints, stains, thinners, strippers, glues, polishes, hazardous cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, de-greasers

Not Accepted:
latex paints, medical wastes, ammunition, fireworks or explosives
